When to go to Santiago de Cuba
December - May
These are the driest and sunniest months in Santiago, with temperatures nudging 30°C. The weather is not too humid so this can be a good time to explore the city on foot. Take a walking tour along cobbled streets and discover colonial architecture, the Moncada barracks and some of the city’s most notable rum and cigar factories.

June - November
Weather-wise, these are the hottest and rainiest months, with high humidity and few cooling breezes. From 18-27 July is Cuba’s largest and most traditional carnival, incorporating the celebrations of the revolutionaries’ attack on Moncada Barracks on 26 July: buildings are adorned with lights, and there are buzzing parades and decorated floats in the streets. In November the Festival del Son Matamoros features live shows in leafy plazas by some of the best son artists in Cuba, while heavenly choirs sing for the public during the International Choir Festival of the same month. Storms and hurricanes are possible between August - November.
